The NEMBC is launching two new forums to strengthen member input and sector collaboration, and we’d love for you to be involved.

Member Insight Forum

This Forum offers a space for broadcasters to share what they want from the NEMBC. Whether it’s grant support, projects, or how we represent you, this is your chance to help shape future initiatives to ensure they’re relevant, practical, and impactful.

Station Leadership Forum

This is a space for Station Managers, Presidents, and Board Members to exchange insights and contribute to discussions on governance, sustainability, and the operational challenges facing stations.

These forums are consultative, so although they don’t make decisions, your voice will directly inform the NEMBC’s work and advocacy.

Want to get involved?

Fill in the Expression of Interest Form. Applications close Friday 1st August.

We are looking for broad representation across language groups, station sizes, and locations. Participation is limited, and we may contact someone at your station to confirm your involvement. Successful applicants will be notified once the review process is complete.

We’re excited to share our new communications strategy, designed to amplify the voices of multicultural broadcasters and ensure the NEMBC remains a credible, influential, and visible national peak body.

The plan focuses on communicating with purpose: deepening engagement with members, growing public awareness of the sector, strengthening advocacy with government, and attracting new partners.

Each of our stakeholders, from broadcasters and policymakers to funders, researchers, and the broader public, has different needs, and we’re tailoring our content and channels to meet them. You’ll see this in action through:

  • Monthly newsletters, like this one
  • A private Facebook group just for members
  • Targeted advocacy briefings and media outreach
  • And in time, a revived sector magazine, thought leadership blog, and member-focused workshops.

These last few are still in development, as we work behind the scenes to ensure we have a robust and impactful project plan in place. Once ready, we’ll share them with our new Member Insight Forum for feedback before rolling them out across the network.

Following our recent AGM where proposed constitutional changes did not pass despite broad support, we’re working to make voting fairer and more inclusive for all members. To achieve this, we’ve been exploring an online voting platform called True Vote, which supports our current voting model (1 vote for every 5 programs) and accommodates the delegation of voting rights as outlined in our constitution. This system will help ensure a voting process that encourages wide participation.

We’re also developing a campaign to engage stations more effectively around these changes, with the goal of making sure every voice is heard clearly in future votes.

Our plan is to complete data preparation and system setup over the coming months, and have the voting system ready for a revote in September. Prior to this, NEMBC staff and Board members will personally contact every member station to explain the proposed constitutional changes, the voting process, and why your participation is so important. This campaign will include clear guidance on how to register for the online vote, how delegation of voting rights works, and how to ensure your program member’s votes are properly counted.

Our priority is to provide all members with the information and support needed to participate confidently and fairly.

Hi NEMBC members and broadcasting community,

We’d like to provide an update regarding the pricing structure for NEMBC membership.

Following the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May, the proposed constitution changes were not passed. As a result, the current membership fee remains listed at $0 until the NEMBC Board finalises the pricing structure for 2025.

This is a great opportunity for current and new members, as well as stations, to join or renew their membership at no cost for the time being. Being part of NEMBC means connecting with Australia’s peak body for ethnic broadcasting, offering support, advocacy, and a strong community network.

How to sign up
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity by registering via the link below:

For those who have already paid for 2025
Your payment will be held as a credit until the AGM constitution changes are finalised.

Stay connected
Current members are invited to join our NEMBC Members Facebook Forum for the latest updates, peer support, and discussions with fellow broadcasters

• Content available: NDIS | Know your rights | The Rights Path Project from SSI

The NEMBC is proud to have partened with The Rights Path Project from Settlement Services International (SSI), which is designed to deliver robust choice-and-control focused outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people with disability through an approach that draws on their own experiences.

As part of the partnership, the NEMBC developed four 30-second, ready-to-air audio explainers in EnglishKhmerPunjabi, and Urdu, featuring NEMBC voice talents from across the country.

These are being distributed over three weeks, starting from 14 June 2025, across five community radio stations in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland.

In addition, the NEMBC produced video versions of the audio explainers and created a playlist on the audio distribution platform Omny Studio, making the content available in multiple formats.

The content is freely available to the public and to any radio station or producer wishing to broadcast it on the radio or share the message via online platforms.

• Broadcast Audio: Simon Marnie talks to Australian ex-service people

The NEMBC has partnered with I&G to distribute, within the NEMBC network, an audio series developed by I&G in collaboration with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, as part of the Veteran Employment Program.

The 8-part series is hosted by Simon Marnie, a founding member of FBi Community Radio and former ABC broadcaster.

It features interviews with four successful ex-service people who have built on their military experience to make significant contributions in civilian workplaces.

The series is part of a broader effort to highlight the value veterans bring to the workforce.

If you like these interviews, your listeners might find them engaging too.

We ask that you listen to them and consider them for insertion into appropriate programs (and/or social media).

You can download the full series and transcripts here

Think Impact and Compass Polling are working together to better understand the impact of ethnic and multicultural radio, as well as several other sectors of community radio.

To help them do that, they have designed a very short survey. The purpose of this work is to support additional funding requests from community radio.

We are hoping for as many responses as possible. The more responses we get, the stronger the results will be.

We are interested in responses from listeners, volunteers, employees and advertisers/sponsors.

All responses are completely anonymous.

The findings will be included in a public report to help shape the future of radio.
